Happy St. Lucy’s day, also known as Little Yule.
During the nine days of Yule (from today through the 21st) I will be doing a Circle Thrice Yule Novena and will be launching something new every day! Today the new website launched and I made a little video about it here:
So look for a series of short updates on all the cool new things from now until the solstice. Like a little advent calendar full of treats!
This month I will be taking personal time from the solstice to the new year. The astro-magical alignments around the end of year make it a perfect time to take a step back…
Jupiter enters Aries on the 20th and squares the Sun on the solstice the following day. In a personal chart, Jupiter in Aries has a focus on courage, self motivation, and self sufficiency. Generally, it asks us to do an accounting of what personal resources we have in these areas. Squaring the Sun is a caution to be realistic about this exercise.
I usually do a public service message around the winter solstice that while a certain day might be the shortest, the longest night might be the night before the solstice (20-21) or the night after (21-22). I calculate this based on Sun rise/set times (in my location) to the second every year. This year the night before and the night after are the same length, to the second. So this is like TWO dark nights (and with the year we’ve had, maybe we need that).
The night before (part of the previous magical / lunar day) is for love and the night after for destruction. I like the idea of doing drawing, connecting, family, and expanding magic the first solstice night and putting the old year behind me (destroying it) on the second.
The 22nd is a planning day, between lunations and with Venus trine Neptune and the Moon in Sagittarius, I think there are some good opportunities to marry desires / dreams and plans / reality.
[Side note, for those of you in Europe, Asia, and Australia, both solstice nights are for love and the 22nd for destruction, so adjust accordingly]
Friday the 23rd is the first lunation of the new year with the new moon in Capricorn. Capricorn is Saturn’s domain and this would be a great time to kick off some new discipline (much better than the actual new year with Mercury in Retrograde — resolve either now or mid-January). And I’d be remiss if I didn’t suggest that my Lunation Rite would be a perfect way to start the new year.
[The New Moon is after sunset on the 23rd in Asia and Australia, and you might choose to have your lunar day on the next morning at dawn, which means the day for winning and luck would be Christmas Eve]
Starting on Sunday the 25th, Christmas day is a quiet period in a busy month. Mercury goes retrograde on the 29th for three weeks (so if you haven’t kicked off new things by then, wait until next month) and New Years Eve is great for household charms, but it’s otherwise a nice time to wrap up the year in a gentle way. Sometimes you want peace and quiet and I will be praying for both, for all of us, this Yuletide season.
very excited!
