There are two days in the middle of the lunar month that are associated with spirit work. They are very grimoire in flavor, being all about subjugating spirits and conjuring demons, but in fact they are great days for any sort of spirit working. Since the month starts and ends with the dark moon, this means that, unsurprisingly the full moon is a great time for spirit work every month… or close to it. Because of the variability in the lunar cycle, sometimes the full moon is right before or after. This month the run up to the Virgo full moon is a great time for spirit bothering.
In addition, the back end of the week enters a rough period for astro-magic that gets even worse next week. So enjoy the spirits while you can.
So what could this mean in practice?
First, you might lean into the ancestors, connecting with both your beloved dead and your mighty dead. If you are brand new to this, my quick start guide is to pick a couple of ancestors who were kind and liked you, get a photo/memento/reminder of that person, light a tealight, pour clear water, and have a nice chat with them. If they were religious, you can pray for them (to the version of divinity that they preferred).
Second, you could reach out to the spirits of place where you live. If you are in the Northern hemisphere, some of the natural spirits are going to be just starting to awaken. You can make helpful offerings (soil amendments, etc.) or cleanup your local area (I find that picking up litter on walks is a great way to make your local spirits happy).
Finally, you could go skyward and reach out to spirit beings associated with stellar or planetary bodies. The most obvious? The moon! She will be full after all, and you can connect with Her energies in Virgo. One of my favorite witchy practices (that I used to do with my kiddo when he was tiny) is to leave out milk for the moon. We’d put out a small bowl of milk at night as a lunar offering.
In January the Magic Circle membership kicked off with a course on setting goals that are both SMART and MAGICal. Last month was all about crafting a vision for your future. Well, this month we’ll be working on how to turn our goal(s) into a full on project, with a project initiation ritual timed for the Spring Equinox.
