It’s been a minute since I first wrote about the planner and I have a bunch of new readers so I thought I’d rework and repost my introduction…
The History
The information I share here comes from The Circle Thrice Magical Planner. The planner started, as with many things in my magical life, with the RuneSoup sigils course (the very first course, circa 2017) which introduced me to the Hygromanteia lunar days and the concept of tracking alignments between the position of the luminaries and the day of the week and the lunar day. I updated a basic Google Sheet for the entire year that I shared with other RuneSoup members (and still do, every year).
This framework really boosted both the quantity and quality of my enchantments (I was doing more magic and my magic was more effective). I would take a look at the alignment and then plan magic for specific days of the month.
Originally, I was keeping this information in a monthly bullet ephemeris (that is, on paper). However I kept expanding the planner to include all kinds of other astro-alignments, magical days, and so forth. Hand copying became unwieldy and so I started creating a printable insert created from the giant spreadsheet where all this information lives. From there it was a short step to offering this as a product to others.
The Planner
The planner exposes depth and complexity in magical timing and then attempts to identify the best magical opportunities for each day.
See, the planner is like a master distiller’s recipe. The ingredients include:
Hygromanteia Lunar Days (this is like the elite / advanced version of basic lunar magic)
Astrological aspects and transits, including decans, particularly focused on the Sun and Moon
A selection of magically operant Christian and Pagan holidays and Saints Days
Talisman quality lunar mansions elections (thanks to Nate!)
Other points of timing that I’m testing out, but that are sub rosa at this time
Distillation is where the art comes in. What I do is analyze each day, looking for alignments and connections within and between these various ingredients, using my decades of practical magical practice (so many decades, OMG!) to suggest workings that are auspicious or ill-advised for a particular magical day. In addition to specific suggestions for enchantment, I’m now also including authorized recommendations for talismanic materia from Sphere + Sundry.
This is a form of data analysis and magical alchemy. Anyone can find or buy the ingredients. Anyone with the patience can create the magician’s pantry where they are stored (for me, this is the giant spreadsheet that I’ve been collating and which is testing the bounds of Excel’s capacity at this point). It’s the analysis and intuitive discernment that turns all the disparate parts into a cohesive suggestion for that day.
Of course, you might distill these same ingredients into something very different, a recipe of your own, based on your own skills and intuition — and that’s exactly correct. The planner is, above all, a teaching tool. Because when you work enough magically timed magic, you’ll find your ability to alchemize your own perfect magic is strengthened and becomes intuitive. You FEEL the right magic.
I share this background because I think it’s important to understand what the advice you are getting is backed up with.
Other cool parts of the planner are for, you know, actually planning so you can get all that magic done. Goals and tasks, scheduling, habit formation, record keeping. Apparently less magical (though I’d argue that) but not less important.
